47TH ANNUAL ST. JOHN'S PARADE. This year's theme is "Great Moments in History." Each year this parade grows in size. Also planned is an outdoor market in downtown St. Johns. Parade starts at noon. Parade route is west on Lombard between Buchanan and St. Louis. Ends at St. John's Community Center.
 
NW YOUTH CAREER EXPO. Students are invited to attend at no charge. Learn about potential careers in a wide variety of sectors. 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Oregon Convention Center.

Friday May 8

The Oregon League of Minority Voters has long advocated for policies that help end poverty. In keeping with that model, the 2009 Dinner of Hope increases this message.
The dinner and Liberty Awards will be held on May 28 at the Oregon Convention Center. Tickets can be purchased online at the league's website www.oregonlmv.org.
During the dinner, the league will be honoring former Oregon governors Vic Atiyeh and Barbara for promoting policies that have positively impacted communities of color.

TEEN BEACH CLEAN PARTY. Hey teens, come help clean up the beach at the Alki Community Center as low tide reveals debris otherwise hidden. After a group effort, there will be a bonfire with food and music. All teens are welcome for this free event from 2 to 7 p.m.
