Portland Playhouse Presents Wilson's Radio Golf

Members of the new African American theater company that brought Rocket Man to life are back with a production of August Wilson's Radio Golf in April.
Portland Playhouse presents the story of Harmond Wilks, who aspires to be Pittsburgh's first Black mayor. In his campaign to unite the racially divided city, he decides to transform the notoriously blighted Hill District.
His plans are moving perfectly – with chain stores and a health center in the plans – until Old Joe stands in his way. Old Joe holds the memories of his community – good and bad – out to Wilks, reminding him why preserving the neighborhood is so important.
Wilks then faces his most difficult task – determining what's best for himself, his community and his city.
Radio Golf is August Wilson's final chapter of the Pittsburgh Cycle, a chronicle of the lives of African Americans in the 20th Century. Directed by Brian Weaver, Radio Golf stars Bobby Bermea, Kevin Jones, Victor Mack, Lawrence Street and Andrea White.
A special $10 preview show will be at 8 p.m. on April 2. Opening night is on April 3. Shows will go Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. until April 25. All shows performed at Portland Playhouse, 602 NE Prescott St.
